New Views of Hormone Therapy in Menopause

This is an excellent review of the current views of the risks and benefits of hormone therapy.  What is really disturbing is that these views are based on a reanalysis of the same data obtained from the WHI study in 2002.  This study as you recall was the one that convienced all women they will die of breast cancer if they took any hormones.  The reanalysis shows the risk increased only by 8 cases per 10,000 women taking Prempro.  In the estrogen only patients the risk actually decreased..

A Better Model for Predicting Weight Loss?

This recent article challenges the belief that a loss of 3500 calories will result in the loss of one pound.  This study shows controlled feeding and the same excercise intensity will continue to burn fewer calories the more weight a person loses.  This study predicts that the average weight loss will be only half of the predicted weight loss by the calorie reduction formula.  This is why we always recommend increasing your activity as you work towards your goal weight.
