What Happens To Your Body During Menopause

Menopause is the time in a woman’s life that signals the end of her childbearing years. Yet, if you are a woman who maintains general good health and a positive outlook, you can still have many wonderful years ahead.

What You Need To Know About Menopause

As each person is unique, menopause is not exactly the same for every woman. While it generally occurs during the late forties, some women begin menopause as early as their late thirties.

Some women experience a stage known as peri-menopause. Minor symptoms can begin during this period of time. However, the menopausal stage itself usually lasts between five and ten years.

Menopause can cause a variety of symptoms. Hot flashes are the most common symptom. You may also experience mood swings, fatigue, insomnia, a decrease in sex drive, and vaginal dryness. The dryness may make sexual relations difficult or painful. However, you can get help from your doctor.

Expectations And Treatment

In the past, many women looked at menopause as a sign that their lives were nearly over. They no longer felt useful because they could no longer enjoy intimacy or bear children. Fortunately, women today view menopause as a new and exciting phase of life.

For most women, the first sign that menopause is beginning is a change in their menstrual patterns. Menstrual flows may be lighter or heavier, and you may occasionally skip periods. This is the ideal time to consult with a gynecologist.

There are many women who do not need any treatment for menopausal symptoms. However, if symptoms are severe, the gynecologist may recommend hormone replacement therapy. Hormone replacement therapy can relieve many common symptoms of the menopausal stages, so they do not interfere with your life.

So remember, your life is far from over when this stage of life occurs. With a good attitude, you can look forward to a healthy future. However, if menopausal symptoms are bothersome, ask your gynecologist if hormone replacement therapy is right for you.
