Who Can Benefit From the O-Shot®?

If you are a woman who suffers from sexual issues such as low sex drive, difficulty achieving an orgasm, and urinary incontinence, you understand how frustrating these issues can be concerning intimacy. Most women are embarrassed or nervous to speak with their primary physician or gynecologist about these issues, and many doctors have little to say on these important matters. In fact, up until very recently, there were limited resources available to help women deal with these concerns aside from physicians suggesting psychotherapy or prescribing hormones.

Now there is a new treatment called the Orgasm Shot®, or O-Shot®, that not only offers hope for these conditions but can also be administered during a simple in-office procedure.

How Does The O-Shot® Work?

First, a small amount of blood is drawn from your arm. Using a centrifuge, one of our doctors will isolate platelets from that blood all within about 15 minutes in the office. The platelets are then “activated” to release multiple growth factors that are normally used to heal injured tissue. These growth factors work to stimulate collagen and new blood flow.

For patient comfort, numbing cream is applied around the vaginal area, then the doctor utilizes a small needle to gently and carefully place precise amounts into the vaginal area. Patients report that they feel minimal to no pain during this procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for the O-Shot®?

If you are concerned about your sexual health, and would like to experience increased sexual pleasure and a higher quality of life, then you are a good candidate for the O-Shot®. Many women benefit from the O-Shot® procedure. As their own body’s natural growth factors work to enhance and rejuvenate sexual responsiveness and sensitivity. Symptoms continue to improve over the first 12 weeks.

Will the O-Shot Affect My Ability to Have Children?

The O-Shot® consists of platelet-rich plasma created from the patient’s own blood. That means your body can’t have an adverse reaction to it. Plus, these injections are only made into the clitoral area, the labia, and possibly the G-spot area. They are not made to great depth. They have nothing to do with any of the body’s reproductive capabilities in any way.

These treatments are meant to increase sexual health. They don’t impact or involve reproductive health.

When Will I Experience My Results from My O-Shot?

Every patient responds a little differently to these injections. Some of our Woodlands OBGYN O-Shot® patients report an immediate improvement. But that’s not the norm. For most patients, the growth factors usually take about two weeks to fully take effect. From there, results build to a maximum level in from 3 to 4 months.

How Long Will the Results from My O-Shot Last?

These results last for between six months and two years. We’ve found that patients can extend their results for a longer duration with a follow-up O-Shot® at six months to one year after their initial procedure.

Is There Any Preparation Before My O-Shot?

No, these are non-invasive treatments, so there aren’t any incisions or recovery. Your Woodlands gynecologist will apply topical numbing cream prior to your session, but this doesn’t have restrictions as with general anesthesia, so you don’t need to arrange transportation or anything.

Is It Painful to Receive the O-Shot?

At Woodlands OBGYN, we apply topical numbing cream to the injection sites prior to your O-Shot procedure. This ensures your comfort during the treatment. There is little to no pain during your O-Shot session.

When Can I Return to Sexual Activity after the O-Shot?

There isn’t any prescribed downtime after the O-Shot®, but most patients refrain from sexual intercourse for two days after their treatment. Patients can return to work or other activities immediately.

What’s the Big Deal with Platelet-Rich Plasma?

The key to the O-Shot is the platelet-rich plasma. Because PRP contains such a high concentration of blood platelets, combined with a series of growth factors and cytokines, it plays a key role in healing the body.

Of course, everyone knows how platelets work to clot the blood and close the wound after an injury. But it’s only been in the last 20 years or so that research has shown that platelets offer way more than simply clotting power. Their growth factors and cytokines stimulate various healing processes to not only help close the wound, but then to trigger processes to heal the wound with new tissue growth.

That’s where PRP first became a standard treatment, in the healing of injury or to speed recovery after surgery in professional athletes.

What’s good for a knee joint is good for a women’s clitoral and vaginal areas. The same regeneration and rejuvenating qualities inherent in PRP work to renew tissues in the vaginal areas. The growth factors, in particular, work to increase sensitivity throughout the injected tissues. They also increase lubrication, which is an almost universal problem for women as they age. They help to tighten loose tissues responsible for urinary incontinence. The PRP can even increase interest in sex for some patients.

Recovering From the O-Shot®

Normally, your O-Shot® involves minimal to no pain, and you can get right back to your normal daily activities after undergoing the procedure. With no downtime, and no recovery time, your quality of life and sexual health are recovered and enhanced. Full results are noticed in 2-3 months.

Is the O-Shot Procedure Safe?

There have been NO reports of serious side effects from the injections prepared with a FDA (Federal Drug Administration) approved kit. The first O- Shot® was given in 2011 and it continues to be utilized. This procedure enhances the sexual lives of women who seek to heighten their sexual experience or relieve the embarrassment of urinary leakage.
