We at Woodlands OBGYN are huge advocates of the Da Vinci robot for surgery and expertly use it to perform hysterectomies, myomectomies, and many other procedures. Which is why we are excited to hear about the FDA approval of the new Da Vinci X System.
Like our current model, this Da Vinci robot conducts minimally invasive surgeries coupled with reduced risk during surgery. It is also constructed for the purpose of performing complex surgeries to treat a variety of gynecological conditions and beyond.
A few benefits of Da Vinci robot surgery include:
• Traditional 50 to 100 mm incisions typically reduced to 5 to 12 mm
• Stereoscopic vision allowing operator to see up to 10 to 12 times more in magnification than the naked eye
• High-resolution, three dimensional images of the patient viewed from console
The new model has a few bells and whistles not seen on previous models, the most prominent of which is a new overhead arm architecture designed to facilitate access from virtually any position, a feature that will be beneficial for surgeons performing procedures but not necessarily noticed by the patient and not necessarily worth the cost of upgrading.
