What are hormone pellets and what can they achieve?

istock 1161412690 1 1 As we age, especially during the time of perimenopause and menopause, our bodies begin to change significantly in many ways. Many women are discouraged by the shifting of their hormones that can cause a range of problem, including loss of libido, mood swings, and poor focus and concentration. To combat these changes, it is a great idea to speak to a professional about options such as hormone replacement therapy. Hormone replacement therapy can be used to balance hormones, fend off common symptoms of menopause, and allow patients to function and feel their best. One of the ways in which this can be achieved is with the use of hormone pellets.

What are hormone pellets?

Patients who visit Woodlands OBGYN Associates and are determined to have imbalanced hormones may benefit from hormone pellets. Hormone pellet therapy uses bioidentical hormones that are identical to those naturally present in the body. The hormones are in a pellet that is placed underneath the skin by our doctors. These pellets are made of organic material and are pressed together into a pellet about the size of a grain of rice. During a painless procedure, the hormone pellet is inserted directly underneath the skin in the hip. The pellet works by releasing small amounts of bioidentical hormones into the bloodstream to balance hormone levels and eliminate side effects of hormone imbalances.

How do I know if I need hormone pellet therapy?

Drs. Kellyn Rielly, Holly Westmoreland, Raj Syal, and Jenna Everson of Woodlands OBGYN Associates can evaluate women to determine fi they are experiencing hormone imbalances. If this occurs, a patient can then discuss with their provider the advantages of hormone replacement therapy, especially those interested in pellet therapy. Our doctors will decide if this method of treatment is advantageous for a patient and then make an appointment for the implantation of the pellet. Each pellet will last approximately 3-5 months before another pellet is required.
